The forex market operates 24 hours a day, five days a week. It begins in Asia on Sunday evening and progresses through different major financial centers such as Tokyo, London, and New York, ensuring continuous trading opportunities. The market closes on Friday evening in New York. This 24/5 schedule allows participants worldwide to engage in forex trading at any time, providing flexibility for traders in various time zones.
Trading Sessions
For day traders, optimal trading hours are typically between the opening of the London markets at 08:00 GMT and the closing of the US markets at 22:00 GMT. The peak trading time occurs during the overlap of the US and London markets between 1 pm GMT – 4 pm GMT. The main trading sessions include the London session (8 am GMT – 5 pm GMT) with the most active currencies being EUR, GBP, and USD, the US session (1 pm GMT – 10 pm GMT) with active currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, and JPY, and the Asian session, which opens around 10 pm GMT on Sunday and transitions into the European session at about 9 am GMT.
